Kiwi Link came to us as they were unhappy with what another website development firm produced for them, feeling that it was not worth the money they paid. Our team stepped in to address their concerns and create a website that truly reflects their mission and vision. Kiwi Link is a collaborative initiative in Northland, New Zealand, working to create New Zealandâs first kiwi corridor. Their vision is to see flourishing flora and fauna by 2036, with abundant kiwi roaming safely between Taraunui and Glenbervie. Kiwi Link brings together 12 neighboring community groups and projects across 15,000 hectares in eastern WhangÄrei to maximize ecological gains and reach shared objectives. They empower local landowners and communities to care for native forests, wetlands, coasts, and wildlife. Focusing on kiwi conservation, Kiwi Link aims to increase the numbers, survival chances, and breeding success of wild Northland brown kiwi by controlling exotic animal pests and encouraging dedicated dog control.

The first step in the process was to review the existing website and identify the areas that needed improvement. It was clear that it was not user-friendly, and the design was outdated. The website was not mobile responsive, and the content was not laid out in a way that was easy to read. The navigation was confusing, and the site was not optimized for search engines. The overall look and feel of the site did not reflect the mission and vision of Kiwi Link.
Although the website did use a similar content management system (CMS) to what we use, we decided that the best approach would be to start from scratch. We wanted to create a website that met the needs of Kiwi Link and their users:
The first thing we noticed was that the website was missing a logo. We worked with Kiwi Link to create a logo that reflects their mission and vision:
Another area that Kiwi Link wanted us to develop was a graphic that emphasizes the 5 Minute Native Bird Count Monitoring program.
The new Kiwi Link website features a comprehensive Home section that introduces visitors to the organization's mission and ongoing initiatives. It serves as a gateway to explore their efforts in creating New Zealand's first kiwi corridor, promoting ecological restoration across 15,000 hectares in eastern WhangÄrei.
In the About section, visitors can delve into Kiwi Link's history, goals, and achievements. It provides insights into their collaborative approach, bringing together 12 neighboring community groups to maximize ecological gains and achieve shared conservation objectives.
Under the Wildlife category, the website offers dedicated pages for both Northland brown kiwi and other native species. The Kiwi section highlights the conservation efforts aimed at increasing kiwi numbers and ensuring their survival. Meanwhile, the Other Wildlife section underscores the importance of biodiversity in the region, showcasing various species supported by Kiwi Link's initiatives.
Results & Reports presents detailed insights into the impact of Kiwi Link's efforts. It includes a responsive table displaying Pest Control results, highlighting the effectiveness of their strategies in managing exotic animal pests. Additionally, this section features annual reports, providing stakeholders with comprehensive updates on ecological improvements and conservation milestones achieved throughout the years.
The Groups section provides a platform to showcase the diverse community groups collaborating with Kiwi Link. It features a table outlining each group's contributions and projects, emphasizing their collective efforts towards achieving Kiwi Link's conservation goals.
Lastly, the Contact section offers visitors the opportunity to engage with Kiwi Link. It includes a contact form for inquiries and volunteer opportunities, alongside essential contact information and links to their social media channels, facilitating community involvement and support for their conservation initiatives.
Through the use of a content management system, Kiwi Link can easily update their website with new content, events, and achievements. This ensures that their online presence remains up-to-date and engaging for visitors. As Kiwi Link continues to create new annual reports to showcase their progress, they can easily add these to the website to keep the community informed about their conservation efforts.
